Disaster Response Teams We sent several teams to Mississippi in 2005 and 2006. We helped
here in West Volusia after the 2006 tornado, some at Hawthorn Mobile Home Park and others in the Hontoon area.
Our disaster response trailer has helped us to move quickly.
The House Next Door The House Next Door is a counseling center that we helped establish in
the early 1970s at 121 W. Pennsylvania Avenue. The programs include marriage and family therapy, intern training,
and parenting services. Other programs help children at risk: for school drop; for poor grades; and/or for poor
behavior in school.
The Interfaith Kitchen This ministry is sponsored by the Interfaith Caregivers, a
coalition of several DeLand churches. Meals are served at the First United Methodist Church on South Woodland
Boulevard, four times each week. First Pres serves the first Thursday and the second Friday of each month.
We also provide financial support through
3 CENTS PER MEAL.
Good Samaritan Clinic in DeLand Our volunteers assist St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church
in the clinic housed in a building on South New York Avenue. The clinic serves pre-screened patients who are
uninsured or cannot receive healthcare for other reasons.
Habitat for Humanity Over the last several years West Volusia Habitat for Humanity has
built 71 houses with another five or so under construction. Two crews from our church have been active . One
has installed the aluminum siding on 25 of these 71 houses. The other crew does the interior painting of
ceilings, walls, doors and trim, generally along side the homeowners. A house on 11th Street in Daytona Park
Estates is close to completion. A house built with the cooperation of Alfred University from New York State
is well underway and will be ready for painting soon. This summer we will partner Habitat with a mission team
and build a house in Esteli, Nicaragua. Additional volunteers are always welcome and can contact Lou Brakeman
and/or Jan Wilgers join this outreach.
