The nation of Guatemala suffers often from both natural and political disasters. During this mission trip, Guatemala had a volcanic eruption that left the capital and airport covered with black ash; followed by flooding and mudslides from Hurricane Agatha (photos). AIR-Guatemala responded quickly with two truck deliveries of aid, and after the rainy season, AIR will rebuild two homes.
Once again, we all noticed: where the mountains had trees, there were no mudslides... One of AIR's young pine forests, for instance, stopped a mudslide like little soldiers standing firm (photo).
The third and fourth weeks, we planted over 1,000 more trees, and constructed FIVE of the brick, fuel-efficient stoves. Above all, we offered a ministry of presence, as brothers and sisters in Christ. ~ Anne
