Children on Sundays

Our goal for the Christian Education of the children of First Presbyterian Church of DeLand is to be faithful to the vision of Psalm 78. It is our desire to see these little ones grow up in the knowledge and love of God, to have heard about his mighty acts on behalf of his people and to discover God's great love for them.
On Sunday mornings children have a chance to participate in Kids Church during the 9:00 and 11:00 services. This is a time for children ages 4-8 to gather for singing, Bible stories, crafts and other activities. There is a nursery provided for younger children and children's bulletins and “busy bags” for older children who remain in the service. We attempt to connect the Kids Church message with the one the adults hear so that everyone is on the same page.

During the Sunday School hour children attend our wonderful Workshop Rotation Model classes. For those of you not familiar with this innovative way of doing Sunday School, children study a lesson (such as “The Life of David” or “The Miracles of Jesus”) for 4-6 weeks.

Each week they visit a different workshop like Dreamcoat Studios (video), Artisans Marketplace (arts/crafts), Solomon’s Temple (Bible knowledge, games, drama), Surfin’ the Word computer lab or even the Kitchen for a lesson they can taste!

 By working through a lesson over several weeks and using all the different learning styles, students come away knowing the stories of the Bible better than they ever have.
